Purbeck Vineyard

Charity Event - Free Draw

In aid of Save the Children

and Kenyan Communities

Saturday 17th May  2008

Commencing at 6:30pm with folks enjoying the vineyard and views and a complimentary glass

of Purbeck Wine ~

A hot fork buffet and licensed bar will then be available, local musicians and a great raffle will follow.

Ten million children die every year before their fifth birthday, with the poorest and most neglected children at greatest risk. Most die needlessly from illnesses we can prevent or treat. For just £11 a family can be provided with the seeds they need to grow food for their own children , for just £30 they can ensure through the use of a water filter that their children drink clean water.

All ticket profits from the evening will go to Save the Children campaign and all proceeds from the raffle will be split between Save the Children and The Purbeck Comprehensive trip to Kenya scheduled for Summer 2009.

How can you get involved.
  • Come along .....We have a small number of tickets left at  £25 per head. A great night out in a gorgeous location with gorgeous food and great wine is assured.
  • Do you have a suitable raffle or auction prize that you could donate or a contact that you know could?
  • Is this event something your company would like to sponsor?
  • If you are one of our 'Friends of the Vineyard' with connections in the media and publicity fields is this something you can promote to others?
We really appreciate your help in this incredibly important area at a time when children's lives around the world are limited through poverty, violence and disease.

2006 Runner-Up Best Gastropub ~ Time Out

After a lengthy four months and 8 tastings we are delighted to show off our
new and improved wine list in time for the wonderful summer we are going to
have! Featuring exclusively old world wines including some unusual varieties
from Corsica, Portugal, Spain and of course France. We will be holding an
official wine tasting on Saturday 24th May at 7pm where we will be
showcasing all 26 wines and 5 champagnes. Tickets are £10 per person
including canapés. There are only 30 tickets available so pop in asap to
reserve your place.

There is also good news for all the beer drinkers out there; we have taken
on Hophead from the Darkstar brewery in Haywards Heath as our new house Ale
replacing Timothy Taylor Landlord. We have had it on as guest ale a couple
of times and had wonderful feedback. Let us know what you think!

Also new at The Charles Lamb is Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on draught replacing
Leffe. A fantastic beer from a Californian microbrewery this a real treat to
see on draught and a great alternative to a lager.

Bastille Day celebrations will be held on Saturday July 12th this year. The
petanque competition will kick off at 1pm. Teams need to register at Midday
on the day with 2 people in each team at a cost of £5 with all proceeds
going to Battersea Dogs Home. Last year we raised £150 and we would like to
double that this year with a raffle. If you would like to donate to the
raffle please contact Camille at info@thecharleslambpub.com. The event is
kindly sponsored by Ricard with lots of goodies up for grabs.

Nick Botting’s painting of last years event is now available in a limited
edition print for £150. The Frame Factory has agreed a special Charles lamb
price on a simple ash frame and mount for £50. Please pop in or e-mail if
you are interested in one.

Thank you to all those who cast their vote for the Charles Lamb Sunday lunch
in the Observer Food Monthly awards. You may now have to start queuing for a
table on Saturday night … we are looking into investing in tents and
blankets to make your wait more comfortable!

Don’t forget to check out our increasingly popular blog from the ladies in
the kitchen legsoflamb.blogsot.com as featured in Timeout!

London Pride Walk for Cancer Research date announced

13th Cancer Research UK fundraiser will take place on July 13

Christopher Biggins and Top Gear's James May help quench Griffin's thirst before the 2005 London Pride Walk for Cancer Research UK

London’s brewer, Fuller, Smith & Turner P.L.C., is delighted to announce that the 13th London Pride Walk will take place this year on Sunday, July 13.

The London Pride Walk, which raises funds for Cancer Research UK at Hammersmith Hospital, involves a circular route along the beautiful Thames Towpath from Fuller’s Griffin Brewery in Chiswick, West London

Walkers will be joined by one of Fuller’s fabulous dray horses, Griffin, who has walked the course many times before.

The route takes participants over Chiswick and Hammersmith Bridges, before returning them to Homefields Park, opposite the Griffin Brewery, for entertainment and refreshments, including a free pint of London Pride for the over 18s. Soft drinks will be available for younger walkers.

Since the first walk in 1996, the event has raised over £1 million towards vital research into treatments for cancer.

Fuller’s sales and personnel director, Richard Fuller, said: “The London Pride Walk for Cancer Research UK has become a big date in the Brewery’s calendar, as many of our customers and employees like to take part.

“I’m so pleased that we managed to break the £1 million barrier last year, as Cancer Research UK needs as much funding as it can get to help find better treatments and even a cure.”

British Brewing – the end is nigh!

According to pundits in various national newspapers the possible takeover of Scottish & Newcastle, by Carlsberg, heralds the end of British Brewing as we know it. The fact is that the brewing industry in the UK was transformed by the Beer Orders of 1989 – a totally bad piece of legislation which simply served to destroy many brewers and put in place vast estates of pubcos – largely owned by financial institutions.more....

Dunsmore get his price.

As predicted, John Dunsmore, CEO of Scottish & Newcastle, has seen his hard nosed approach work, as bidders Carlsberg / Heineken upped their bid to 800p. At that level many large shareholders have indicated their satisfaction, however Dunsford and his team have not finished yet. more....

Lager Image hits Baseline

Watchers of the exciting final of the tennis from Queen’s Club, between Andy Roddick and French parvenu Nicholas Mahut, might have been forgiven for failing to notice that the event had received something of a make-over in the form of a name change. The prestigious tennis tourament, which acts as a precursor to Wimbledon, is now called “the Artois” – having for years been known as the Stella or in full the Stella Artois.

Can it be that the makers of the country’s premier premium lager have had doubts over Stella’s Lager lout associations? Perhaps all those ads, which proclaimed the the brew as “reassuringly expensive” and which seemed to work in shoring up market share despite the price, have now come to the end of their useful life. Stand aside Stella the Soccer Slut, welcome Artois the Tennis Superstar?

History of brewing

In the Middle Ages when ale was the general drink of all classes, brewing was a necessary and often domestic industry, and few records of local courts are without some reference to its regulation. An Engagement is Announced

Since the year 2000, the pub-goers web site of choice has been the UK Pub Guide (www.pubguide.net), then, in 2004, the Licensed Trade was given its very own portal with the arrival of Pub Forum (www.pubforum.org.uk) - a veritable Aladdin's Cave of vital information and news for the hospitality business. Now, the two sites  are coming together and we are sure that you would want to wish the happy couple all the best and come to the party.

Over the years, tens of thousands of visitors have relied on  the UK Pub Guide* and we have decided that it is time to freshen up the site and by joining up with Pub Forum let all visitors share in the information that is available. After all, pub customers do become pub proprietors - so why not
let them in on some trade information. Publicans are forever changing the nature of their offers - so here is a chance to let the punters know what¹s new and what¹ s on in terns of entertainment, new menus or whatever.

This is an open invitation for you to join in the party. Have a look at the site and let us have your feedback. We welcome news and views from all quarters. Publicans, let us have your latest events. Festival organisers, make sure we have the correct details. Customers, have you found a little gem you want to share?

Send your information to barry@ukpubguide.net and keep coming back to see how the site is developing - it promises to be a marriage made in heaven.
